  • David Whittall

    Portfolio Manager

    An investment professional since 1990, David brings a wealth of professional and international investing experience to the team. David joined SGI from HSBC in San Francisco where he was Senior Vice President and the senior international equity business development representative. Prior to HSBC, he was a Vice President at JP Morgan and their senior European equity business development representative in San Francisco. Before his work in international equities, David spent seven years at Montgomery Asset Management where he was a Senior Analyst, Portfolio Manager and Principal. At Montgomery, David had responsibility for global energy, utility and industrial sector equity research. He was also the founder and Portfolio Manager for the Montgomery New Power Fund, a utility/energy-focused sector fund. David joined Montgomery after living in Hong Kong for five years where he was an Associate Director at Baring Securities and Head of China Equity Research. Institutional Investor Magazine named David in their All Asia Research Team. He also held research positions at Crosby Securities (HK) and Smith Barney Asia. David graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies and spent one year as a UC Regent's scholar at Beijing University in the People's Republic of China. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and French.

  • Scott Klimo

    Scott F Klimo, CFA

    Portfolio Manager

    An investment professional since 1987, Scott draws on a wide variety of professional and international investing experience. Prior to joining the SGI team, Scott worked as a Senior International Analyst for Founders Asset Management in Denver focusing on consumer durables and non-durables, telecommunications and telecom equipment. Before joining Founders, Scott was an Assistant Portfolio Manager for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, where he helped manage a $4 billion international portfolio with a value-oriented investment style. Scott began his investment career in 1987 as an analyst for Crosby Securities in Hong Kong before progressing to Thailand Research Director for Smith New Court Far East. He graduated from Hamilton College with a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies and soon departed for Asia to pursue graduate studies and launch his career, spending the next 11 years in the region. Scott is a Chartered Financial Analyst and speaks Mandarin Chinese and Thai.

  • Mark Kress

    Mark Kress, CFA

    Portfolio/Risk Manager - Quantitative

    Mark brings to the firm over 12 years of experience in developing and maintaining systems specific to investment processes. Prior to joining SGI, Mark was an analyst at Trinity Equity Management, a San Francisco-based investment advisory firm where he developed and implemented the firm’s investment process incorporating quantitative screening models and risk management procedures. Mark also spent four years as a Senior Consultant at FactSet Research Systems, where he worked with a variety of portfolio managers assisting in the development of proprietary investment strategies using the FactSet platform. He graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Economics and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Mark also holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business.

  • Yon Perullo

    Yon Perullo, CFA

    Quantitative Portfolio and Risk Manager

    Yon joined SGI in 2007 and brings 12 years of quantitative product development and investment experience to the firm. As a quantitative portfolio and risk manager, he is responsible for ensuring that specific SGI strategies optimise performance while staying within predetermined risk parameters.  Before joining SGI, Yon co-founded Nascent Strategies, a Connecticut-based hedge fund that specialised in quantitative market-neutral investing. Also acting as a portfolio manager at Nascent Strategies, he was responsible for building the quantitative screening and risk management models essential to capturing outperformance for the fund. Previously, Yon was Vice President of Quantitative Analytics at FactSet Research Systems, where he directed the global sales and development of FactSet's suite of quantitative products, including alpha modeling, portfolio simulation and risk analysis. During his tenure at FactSet, he was extensively involved in helping clients refine and improve their investment process. Yon has a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

  • Shadi Aboukhater

    Shadi Aboukhater

    Senior Trader

    An investment professional since 1997, Shadi brings to the firm in-depth knowledge of trading and trading-related systems. Shadi came to SGI from Hilspen Capital Management where he was responsible for implementing and managing the firm's trading and trading-related systems. Prior to Hilspen, he worked at Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant. Shadi began his investment career in 1997 working at Paragon Strategic Management. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on Finance and Management from the University of San Diego.
